What to wear on a cruise: Cruise attire and dress codes

white dress for cruise

Pool parties happen all the time on the cruise, Always bring a minimum of two swimsuits because it might take some time to dry the other one, so just keep an extra one. If you are still not sure that this is your style, then you can wear a floral cover-up to carry it according to your style. We all enjoy wearing jumpsuits on vacation because they are extremely travel-friendly. It’s only one piece of clothing that will make you look stunning while also keeping your luggage light. But I would advice that you don’t pick one with linen fabric, so you don’t need to iron it again and again. On the day of departure, the outfit should be casual because throughout the day you will be exploring around the cruise, and taking some good pictures for the gram.

Once you’re on board, you probably won’t need your wallet so it should ideally be stored safely in your rooms. Carrying a purse or handbad is completely your choice – if you feel like it complements your outfit or that you can safely carry it around, then do go for it. Many women also prefer carrying handbags on cruises to store items they might need like makeup, sunscreen, perfumes, etc. Maxi dresses make great cruise outfits for curvy and plus-size women but you want them to have detailing at the right places. If you’re going on just a one-day dinner cruise for a few hours, you would want to go fancy and wear a dress, especially if you’re going with someone special. Choose colors that look good at night such as blue, red, black or gold.

What should I wear during the day?

On cruises that depart from the U.S., expect a more casual vibe, with jeans, T-shirts and bathing suits ruling the day. At night, you'll be fine with nice jeans and a collared shirt or a sundress, although you might want to dress up a bit more to match the ship's ambiance. As for Holland America formal nights, on sailings shorter than a week, there will be one "gala night," where travelers don evening or ball gowns, suits or tuxedos. Voyages of eight to 13 nights will see two gala nights, while any cruises of two weeks or longer will have three chances to dress to the nines. Although the dress code on Holland America Line ships is technically "cruise casual," you'll rarely spot anyone looking disheveled or like they just rolled out of bed.

Azamara Cruises Dress Code: More Casual Than You Might Think

If you aren’t sure what to wear to a white party at sea, you have come to the right place. Perfect for day or evening, these stylish flat neutral sandals can be worn with shorts, jeans or casual dresses. Most cruises don’t allow jeans on the formal dinners, so it is important to check this with your cruise management before you leave. For longer cruise trips, jeans and shorts are acceptable for daywear and informal gatherings.

What to Pack for a Cruise Trip?

A cruise is a great place to wear bigger earrings than you would typically wear. When it's time to hit the town at night, add some accessories to soften this look like dainty jewelry, colorful slip-on shoes, a Panama hat and a handbag. This outfit can easily carry you into the evening, but dainty jewelry, colorful slip-on shoes, a Panama hat and swapping from a backpack to handbag will create a softer look. Be ready for all of the fun cruise ship adventures, from the skydive simulator to the waterpark.

Work From Home Outfits

During the day, wear athletic shorts, a neutral-colored tank top, and sneakers or sandals. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeved sun shirt in your day bag. Pack extra clothes in a tote bag in case you don't have time to go back to your stateroom.

And what exactly does your cruise line consider formal enough for your formal night dress code? Few issues create as much confusion among cruisers as what they are allowed to wear onboard, especially the when and where of it all. A white night cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you’ll never forget. By dressing appropriately and packing the right things, you can make the most of your evening and enjoy all that the cruise has to offer. During casual nights on a cruise, resort wear or casual attire is usually appropriate.

I’m sometimes asked how I can wear dresses on a cruise ship due to the ocean breeze. I admit I’ll almost always have a bathing suit under my dress during the day when outdoors. I think it’s perfect for days in port, worn over a bathing suit, and cute on a casual day or warm evening. Short sleeves give this navy and white striped maxi the coverage you want when you are out and about during the day and don’t want to get too much sun on your shoulders.

Themed evenings and gala nights are the hallmarks of cruise entertainment, demanding a wardrobe that elevates your style to match the night’s festivities. Don’t forget to pack your favorite swimsuits for fun-filled days by the pool or at the beach. Whether you prefer a one-piece or a bikini, bring enough options to enjoy the sun and water. Remember that the daytime dress code on a cruise is generally laid-back and relaxed.

However, in most cases, the dress code for White Night falls somewhere between semi-formal and formal attire. While I like it in white, it is equally gorgeous in the brighter colors as well. This long cardigan style swimsuit cover up looks both casual and elegant. This short sleeve baby doll dress is a favorite of mine for embarkation day and port days.

This casual short halter dress is so easy to wear for cruises and beach vacations. The material is very comfortable and packs so well, without wrinkling. My favorite part is how comfortable it is – it even makes a good swimsuit cover up for a beach day. Make sure your cruise packing list includes a lightweight bag for your book, sun protection, wallet, camera, phone and a foldable dry bag tucked inside. When you're done swimming, you can stow your swimwear away in the dry bag without getting the rest of your items wet.

These will provide the support and comfort needed for long walks and ensure you can enjoy your adventures without discomfort. Protect your eyes and skin from the sun’s rays with sunglasses and sun hats. These accessories shield you from harmful UV rays and add a touch of style to your cruise outfits.

Swimsuits aren't allowed in most public spaces, including some outdoor dining venues. Buffets are usually more lenient; you can dine in your swimsuit in the outdoor seating area, but should wear something over it when standing in line for food. White night cruises are typically offered in the summer months, when the days are longest.

It gives you a chance to unwind and have fun with several onshore and onboard activities. So, to enjoy those activities, you need proper attire according to season. You are the only one who knows that you are going, so pack accordingly for how many days you are going.

Cruises to St Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

cruise to st croix

Point Udall is the easternmost point in the United States. It’s about a half-hour drive from Christiansted, but well worth the journey – once you arrive at the rocky bluff, you can wander up a paved road to the overlook for the best views on the island. Taste your way through the history of rum on St Croix as you tour the Captain Morgan and Cruzan Rum distilleries, where you’ll learn about the process of making the Caribbean’s favourite spirit. English is the official language but often with a Caribbean twist of unique pronunciations and vocabulary thrown in.

Jump Up in Christiansted

Located in the heart of Frederiksted, is the only cruise ship port on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. The pier is a popular destination for scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, and much more. However, access to the pier is restricted when there is a cruise ship in port, and only ship passengers and crew are allowed onto the pier.

Equus Riding Tours

For just $8, you’ll get a twenty minute tour that’ll take you through the facilities. Virgin Islands with Celebrity brings you the best in luxury travel, no matter which itinerary you choose. You'll enjoy world-class dining, contemporary accommodation, and unparalleled service. Spend a quiet afternoon by the pool at the adults-only Solarium. Treat yourself to a delicious cocktail at the Martini Bar. Choose The Retreat, a tranquil oasis of exclusive dining, a private lounge, and suite accommodation.

History

One point of interest though, that you would want to explore immediately you leave the pier is Fort Frederiksted located just a short distance to the left of the cruise ship dock. This fort was built in 1760 and bears a rather interesting history of the island which has flown seven flags from its inception. Bus, bicycle, motorbike, and walking are all options for getting around St. Croix. Taking a bus is trickier than getting around in other ways, as the Vitran Public Bus system can run erratically sometimes. You can also rent a car and drive yourself, or take a taxi from the cruise port in Frederiksted to various destinations around the island.

Night Southern CaribbeanDetails

When you cruise to St. Croix, you’ll get a truly mellow island experience and a nice break from bigger, more crowded beach destinations. You would think everyone would know about St. Croix, the U.S. Virgin Island’s biggest island, but it remains a little under the radar. Tourists tend to flock to the more famous St. Thomas, but there’s plenty to see and do in St. Croix for all types of travelers on a Caribbean cruise. St. Croix’s culinary scene is as diverse as its landscape.

The pier is the scene of romantic sunset walks, dives and pier jumping. Our January 2025 cruise will take us to St. Croix for our first ever visit. Anchorage for larger vessels is available in the outer harbor waterway. The Pier's platform is equipped with a fendering system (designed for submarines).

RCI-Royal Caribbean unveils 2025-2026 East Coast USA cruise homeports/ships

If you are visiting the island during the holiday season, you can experience the island’s culture by checking out this giant celebration by Crucians. The beach bears no amenities, and you are not allowed to drive any stick into the sand to avoid destroying turtle nests. It’s very exclusive and is only open on weekends or when cruise ships are in port all throughout the year except April to August.

Sion Farm Distillery, Home of Mutiny Island Vodka

There are places on the island that you wouldn’t be able to see except on an ATV. It also offers a variety of paintings and hand-carved mahogany sculptures. Not forgetting unique island spices, clothes, and quirky island souvenir. There are plenty of places you can grab a bite at starting with Polly’s and Turtle Deli in Frederiksted. While in Christiansted you can eat at places such as the La reign chicken shack and Balter. Or you can take an interesting 3 hours food tour where you will sample it all on a fun and educational historical tour around Christiansted.

Hike to the Tide Pools

Visitors can also walk the nature trails and take in what it’s like to visit this uninhabited island. If you’re coming from Frederiksted, Buck Island is less than an hour’s drive, but access to the island is only available through boat or tour. Most of the large cruise liners dock at Port Frederiksted (locode VIFRD), while smaller-sized ships and superyachts usually dock at Port Christiansted (locode VICTD). Visiting the seastern Caribbean island of St. Croix is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The best way to do this is by planning a cruise from one of the many Florida ports.

Go walk the beautiful gardens enjoying the scent of flowers wafting in the air. Both are great and you will learn plenty of information for just a $7. Enjoy duty-free shopping in St. Croix for up to $1600 for US residents.

cruise to st croix

The 16-acre botanical garden 4miles northeast of Frederiksted is a must visit. It bears history dating back to 100AD when the original inhabitants of the island first set up camp here to farm and practice horticulture. This park boasts of the largest mangrove system in the USVI’s. A popular thing to do here is taking a kayak tour of the mangrove by the day and seeing the bioluminescent bay by night.

The reef is made up of giant Elkhorn coral that forms a fortress-like reef wall. Point Udall is probably the most unique and popular attraction in St. Croix. St. Croix eastern coast is a rugged landscaped of rocky coast and semi-arid vegetation like cactuses. The 1015acre park protects the islands flora and fauna in the estuary, wetlands and submarine canyon. Salt River Bay is located about 5miles from Christiansted on the northern side of the island. It’s the only place in the US territory where Columbus actually set foot on.

In its heyday, St. Croix was a wealthy sugar cane manufacturing island with at least 200 sugar cane plantations. Or learn the island’s history over at the historic district. Here you can visit Fort Christianvaern and enjoy the rich Danish history of the island. Snorkeling here is bound to leave you with long lasting memories. An additional charm to Buck Island is Turtle Beach at its western point. It features the softest white sands and clearest turquoise blue waters perfect for swimming, floating and playing in.

Explore the art, meet the artists behind the art, watch them work or learn a thing or two in an art class and finally buy the piece that impresses you most. There are plenty of art galleries in both Christiansted and Frederiksted. One way to enjoy the incredibly diverse landscape of St. Croix is on an ATV.

Beaches are abundant across the island; Butler Bay, Dorsch Beach, and Frederiksted Beach are perfect for relaxed sunbathing and family fun. For a more active time on the beach, head to Coakley Bay Beach or Cane Bay Beach, where you’ll find abundant diving and snorkeling. Buck Island Reef National Monument and Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge aren’t far from the port at Frederiksted and make a great day trip for nature lovers.

Your Essential Document Checklist for a Carnival Cruise

carnival cruise documentation requirements

Initially, Carnival was only offering one sailing, but when that cruise sold out in just 24 hours, a second departure was added. Documentation requirements are set by US Customs and Border Protection, and all cruise lines must abide by those guidelines. A “closed loop” cruise is defined as one that both embarks and debarks from the same homeport – a roundtrip sailing. Visa Waiver Program (VWP)The Visa Waiver Program allows foreign nationals from certain countries to travel to the United States for business or pleasure, for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa.

Rumors Suggest Carnival Cruise Line to Require Passports

It’s important to note that while these alternatives to a passport may be acceptable for certain itineraries, having a valid passport is still the best option for international travel. All passengers, including children, must have a valid passport to travel on a Carnival cruise. The passport must be valid for at least six months after the end of the cruise. Passports must be in good condition and not damaged in any way, or they may not be accepted.

Minors

Carnival requires additional documentation and fees for unaccompanied minors. If the minor is traveling with only one parent or legal guardian, the parent or legal guardian must provide a notarized letter from the absent parent or legal guardian stating that the minor has permission to travel. The letter should include the name of the absent parent or legal guardian, their relationship to the minor, and the dates of the trip.

From passports to travel insurance, we’ll cover everything you need to know to make your cruise experience hassle-free and enjoyable.

It’s essential to carefully review the policy terms and conditions to understand what is covered and any applicable deductibles or exclusions. Rediscover Your Smile: Unlocking Dental Health Secrets from Years of Absence

When a person has not been to the dentist in years, it can mean that they have neglected their oral health and have not been receiving regular checkups and cleanings.

Regular dental visits are essential for maintaining good oral health. They allow dentists to identify and treat problems early on, preventing them from becoming more serious and costly to treat. During a checkup, the dentist will examine your teeth and gums for any signs of decay, gum disease, or other problems. They will also clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Cleanings help to prevent cavities and gum disease and can also improve your breath.
